Designing music streaming infrastructure / Amazon Music

At Amazon Music, I led the builds of the products behind the sound—building the infrastructure that supported royalties, reporting, and artist compensation across key product launches in spatial audio, high-fidelity streaming, and catalog expansion. These are three case studies that follow my work as a technical product manager at Amazon Music.

Technical product management, systems design

1. Enabling Spatial Audio on Amazon Music

As the product manager for royalties and reporting, I supported the launch of Amazon Music’s Spatial Audio experience, which introduced Dolby Atmos and 360 Reality Audio to headphones for the first time. I led the design and rollout of backend systems that ensured artists, labels, and rights holders were accurately compensated for spatial audio streams. This included building new logic for royalties attribution, updating reporting pipelines, and aligning internal tools with emerging industry standards. I partnered closely with engineering, finance, legal, and label relations teams to make sure our systems could scale with the growth of immersive audio.

2. Expanding the Prime music catalog from 2M to 100M songs

In November 2022, I spearheaded the royalties and reporting strategy for Amazon Music’s Prime catalog expansion—from 2 million to 100 million tracks, available to stream in shuffle mode at no extra cost. My role involved designing robust backend pipelines to ensure that artists, labels, and rights holders were accurately tracked and compensated despite the shift in usage patterns. I collaborated with legal, label relations, and finance to align new reporting and payment systems with the updated offering. This effort elevated the value of Amazon Prime and reinforced Amazon Music’s commitment to fair compensation at scale.

3. Unlimited Access to HD Audio for all

When Amazon Music made its HD (lossless) tier available to all Music Unlimited subscribers at no additional cost, I led product efforts in royalties and reporting to support the transition. This included integrating high-fidelity stream types—HD, Ultra HD, and Spatial Audio—into existing systems, updating payout logic, and ensuring financial models reflected the unified pricing structure. My work enabled Amazon Music to scale its high-quality listening experience while maintaining transparency and accuracy in royalty attribution for creators and rights holders.
